Here’s an easy twist on a traditional nursery rhyme that will help get rid of some extra energy while reviewing numbers and teaching time (with a little phonemic awareness thrown in, too). Instead of:
Tick tock, tick tock, I’m a little cuckoo clock.
Tick tock, tick tock, now the time is one o’clock.
Cuckoo! (Lift baby into the air)
Continue with two, three, four and five o’clock.
Grab some number cards you already have, or write the numbers or clock faces/digital time you want to review on some construction paper. (Remember, army time is on a 24 hour clock, so teen numbers would work great, too!)
Teacher:
Tick tock, tick tock, I’m a little cuckoo clock. (Shows class the number/clock face)
Tick tock, tick tock,
Students:
Now the time is ____ o’clock. (Jump up and down/jog in place/wave hands in air, etc. the correct number of times while counting to the number).
