In Like a Lion, Out Like a Lamb
March roars in like a lion
So fierce,
The wind so cold,
It seems to pierce.
The month rolls on
And Spring draws near,
And March goes out
Like a lamb so dear– Lorie Hill –
Get your Common Core Measurement and Data skills going in high gear with this simple, topical idea for March. You’ll be working those Counting and Cardinality and Number and Operations in Base Ten muscles, too! Is it a “lion” day or “lamb” day? Add this easy question into your regular calendar routine and you’ll get another chance to count and compare numbers and all sorts of great math standards. Hopefully this beautiful weather will give way to at least a little rain, and the conversation about which kind of day it is will be a bit more interesting. ;) {Come on RAIN!}

Rather than a usual bar graph, we used tens frames since that seems to nicely support Common Core place value work. The line to the side is so you can write the day’s total. You can either laminate this chart so it’s easily reusable, or just slide it into a page protector. So grab your dry erase crayons, and get your counting on. You can also check out our list of seasonal books, Spring into Spring with Great Books, several of which will complement the discussion perfectly. Here’s to lots of lamb days with just the right number of lion nights to keep the taps flowing!
