Looking for a quick and easy writing center? Look no further! CKA Board Member, Kimberly DeMille shares this awesome idea with us that will have your kids writing up a storm in no time. She simply gives her students a stack of cards with pictures of CVC words on them. Then they write them in their own color marker on a white board.
Genius – right? What’s even better is how easy it is to differentiate. Have a child who’s not ready to write just any CVC word? Give them a stack of cards with only one word family they feel comfortable with, or they can always just write the initial sound, etc. Have a student who’s ready to write hippopotamus? No problem! It’s easy to have mixed level groups and still have students working at their own levels while they still work together on the same task. Have some children who are struggling with English? They’ll have plenty of help working out which words they’re supposed to be writing with friends right there to help.
The best part? While kids love writing on white boards, we teachers love things that are easy to prep and can be used again and again – making this idea win-win!
Find yourself short on white board space? Tune in next week when we show you a super easy, (and cheap!) way to fix that – without taking up any extra space in your classroom. We promise.
