Here’s a quick and easy song to get your students moving and developing their vocabulary – perfect for beginning of the year ELD (English Language Development). It lends itself to lots of variations, depending on what you’re working on. You could easily sub in body parts instead of clothing, or even get your kids up and moving around the room, putting their fingers on parts of the classroom (put your finger on a desk, wall, rug, chair, pencil). The seated version would also be a great song for getting your class back with you and ready to focus after a transition or just to get out some wiggles.
To the tune of “If You’re Happy and You Know It”
Put your finger on your shirt, on your shirt.
Put your finger on your shirt, on your shirt.
Put your finger on your shirt,
Put your finger on your shirt.
Put your finger on your shirt, on your shirt.
(Repeat for socks, shoes, pants, etc.)
